Vicky's Guide to Hippo House Shamba Plants

I've been intending to learn more about the flora and fauna native to my new home country since i was bought this book, a good year ago...

Bougainvillea

Acacia Thorn

Creating this book has spurred me on to make a dent (although very little) into what i hope will be a hunk of knowledge one day!

Pencil sketch of just a few of the plants

A little bit of the MA stuck with me and since it is the year of soil... I though we could all share a print of the soil that is nourishing our souls at the moment. We've got seeds ready to plant after we've finished building our wall, but we're reaping the benefits of the old avocado tree and some tomatoes are on their way... if they ripen before them cheeky monkeys snatch them all!!!

And here is the finished accordion book...

The front and back are covered with kanga fabric from the local market! I love all the funky bright patters, makes a change to my normal dull choice of colours! I've made some cushion covers and curtains from fabric with a similar pattern but teal and green... happy colours!

I hope this book finds your well all the way over there Angela! Happy creating monkeys xxx i wish the ones here where more like you both!

  1. Ooh Vicky this is beautiful and what a great way to learn more about your local flora & fauna. Nice idea to put in a soil print share, love it! I received Angela's book yesterday, so happy & excited to add to it now & really look forward to the next round when yours comes my way. What treasure :) When you have an extra moment please can you take photos of mine to post, feel silly for not doing it myself before sending it to you & feel a bit left out now haha! I went to Monkey World, not far from here, with my family recently; it is a good sanctuary for rescued monkeys & my 3 were definitely being daft there, a great fun day out just wished I had you two with us to add to the pleasure but obviously I was thinking of you all day! Angela are you having any monkey experiences over your way?! OohOohOoh the funky gibbon.... As ever, big love & happiness xxx

  2. 😳😯 it's sooooo beautiful Wicky!!! I showed my Ma & bro just now and they were ooooing and awwwwwwing over it as well. Such a talented little minx!!! I am very much looking forward to adding my Texas flora & fauna to your book. I thought that maybe I could take my stagecoach and do a workshop where the local foreign phone is part of the educational outreach... So this is PERFECT timing! Don't know if I'll ever do that but at least it's a step in that direction and I'll learn something too, which we the three of us dig. Big hugs to you both. So glad we are doing this!!!!
